In memory of iconic stand-up comedian Bill Hicks, Ryko has announced the release of “The Essential Collection”, a four disc box-set encompassing Hicks’ short but influential career as a satirist, social critic, and stand-up comedian.

The collection is to be issued on September 14th and contains two DVD discs with over five hours of footage of never-before-seen performances, in-depth interviews, personal family photos, as well as the cult film ‘Ninja Bachelor Party’ (starring Bill Hicks, Kevin Booth and David Johndrow). The two CD discs contain over two hours of Hicks’ best stand-up pieces, including never-before-released performance pieces from a San Ramon, CA show recorded by Bill Hicks and found in his archive. Along with this rare material, the box set also features new liner notes written by both family members and such prominent public figures as Henry Rollins, Eric Bogosian, UK author Paul Outhwaite, and UK journalist/TV personality, Clive Anderson, as well as a bonus download card containing previously unreleased original song recordings by Bill Hicks (re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios – London, England) entitled, ‘Lo-Fi Troubadour’’.
