"Electronic Projects For Musicians"
The Apples in Stereo are the indie-rock flag wavers of sunny pop. Formed in 1993 in Denver, Colorado, the band consists of guitarist/vocalist (and Elephant 6 collective co-founder) Robert Schneider, guitarist John Hill, bassist Eric Allen, keyboardists Bill Doss and John Ferguson, and drummer John Dufilho. Together they have created a mesmerizing series of heavenly, effects-drenched, pop milkshakes. Their discography includes eight full-length recordings and mini-masterpieces such as the Let's Go! EP, a homage to the cartoon super-heroines, The Powerpuff Girls. The Apples have recently released what many consider to be their crowning achievement, the pop triumph New Magnetic Wonder (and its b-sides and rarities companion "Electronic Projects For Musicians"). New Magnetic Wonder marks the debut album to be distributed on Elijah Wood's new joint venture with Yep Roc, Simian Records (co-released and distributed via Yep Roc Records/Elephant 6/Redeye Distribution).
The Apples in stereo have performed all over the world and recently at the famed All Tomorrow's Parties and Pitchfork Music Festivals; major television appearances include two performances on The Colbert Report and Late Night with Conan O'Brien; their music has graced national advertising campaigns too numerous to mention.
Last week, a bunch of us MuseBoxers crowded into the lovely studios of The Colbert Report to watch our very own The Apples in stereo perform for the second time on the show.
