Echo and The Bunnymen
In 1978 Echo & the Bunnymen began as a three piece comprising of Ian McCulloch, Les Pattinson and Will Sergeant plus Echo, the drum machine.
They released their first single through “Zoo Records†called “The Pictures On My Wall.†“Zoo†pressed 1000 copies and it sold out straight away, single of the week in NME & Sounds - The band signed to Warner Brothers and got their own imprint “Korovaâ€. They soon ditched ‘Echo’ for Pete de Freitas on drums, and in 1980 released 'Crocodiles', the group's first LP, this was released to unanimous critical acclaim. And is still regarded today as a classic debut album.
Over the next few years the Bunnymen were to have further success with classic albums ‘Heaven Up Here’ & ‘Porcupine’ - also releasing hit singles from these albums like ‘The Cutter',The Back of Love, Bring On The Dancing Horses, Never Stop, Seven Seas, & ‘The Killing Moon’ which was taken from the unforgettable classic LP ‘Ocean Rain’ in 1985.
The band went on their ‘North to South’ tour in 1985 and ended up playing two sold out shows at the Royal Albert Hall and in the same year headlined Glastonbury. Success continued with hits like ‘Lips like Sugar’ & The Game though by early 1988, McCulloch decided to leave the band, to pursue a solo career.
By 1997, Will Sergeant, Ian McCulloch and Les Pattinson found themselves back together in a studio.
The first new Echo & the Bunnymen album in ten years, ‘Evergreen’ released through London records went to number 8 in the charts, the first single from the album, Nothing Lasts Forever' went top 10 and featured Liam Gallagher on backing vocals.
The Bunnymen were back, and stronger than ever.
They have since released 3 studio albums, ‘What Are You Going To Do With Your Life’ also on London records with “Rust†the first single taken from the album entering the charts at 21.
‘Flowers’ & ‘Siberia’ were released through Cooking Vinyl both albums receiving critical acclaim.
The band also released a live album on Cooking Vinyl in 2003 called “Live In Liverpool†which was recorded at LIPA, Paul McCartney’s school of fame in the heart of Liverpool.
Korova / Warner Brothers released More Songs To Learn & Sing in 2006 the bands latest “Best of†which includes some of the bands videos.
The Bunnymen are playing plenty of UK & European festivals this summer and are planning on touring the world around their new album.
The band was presented with the Q inspiration award in 2002 and have just been honored by Mojo magazine with the “The Mojo Maverick award†in 2007.
The Bunnymen are in the studio now putting the finishing touches to their new album.
