Peachcake
In their four years together, the spectacular mutant-based Positivity forces of Peachcake (hailing from the Planet Awesome, and residing in art districts and vegan co-ops nationwide) has gone through what some bands go through in a 20-25 year career span. (Eat that, U2)! After releasing a successful debut EP via Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World's label Western Tread, the band soon found themselves playing sold-out shows to fans of all ages, being the first-ever band asked to play Burning Man, and getting attention from the press (URB deemed them one of their '100 Artists To Watch' among other praises). Then, just as Peachcake was on the brink of taking over, tragedy hit. A run-in with the wrong booking agent caused DJ JohnO to literally disappear for two months and in September '07, came the shocking death of lead singer Stefan Pruett's little brother and Peachcake keyboardist, Alex.
After Alex's passing, the band decided to take things into their own hands. Committing themselves to raising awareness and healing through art and music, Peachcake started the Planet Awesome Movement, which involved setting up youth hotlines, the free distribution of art throughout LA, launching a TV series (which will be piloted by FOX in the Summer/Fall of 2009), and the "Painting For Peace" community event and art installation. The group also chose to buy themselves out of their record contract in order to self-release their ultimate creation and beacon of hope and positivity, their full-length debut, What Year Will You Have the World? under The Planet Awesome Creative Collective/Subtractive.
