Pirate Love formed in 2003 in Oslo, Norway and quickly became one of the country’s most exciting live bands.

Norway is famous for bands like Turbonegro, Gluecifer, Euroboys and Motorpsycho, all unique Scandinavian bands .. ….but PIRATE LOVE ( inspired by the Johnny Thunders song) takes rock in a brand new direction, up-ending the Norwegian music scene and rising straight to the top of the Cream of the NEW NORWEGIAN GENERATION, raw, wild and looking every bit the part, as Turbonegro did in their early years. The band takes elements from 60’s Garage Punk, New Punk Surf Rockabilly and Psychedelica, mixing it all together into one sound called “Black Vodoun Space Blues”. As the title suggests that’s where we find them: a dazzling punked out heroic landscape somewhere between the peaks where The Sonics, Lime Spiders and The Stooges occupy their thrones. It's dirty, it's cool, and it is as many seven-league steps away from James Blunt, Damien Rice and Coldplay as it's possible to get. In other words, this is Rock’n’Roll that cranks out the soundtrack to an inventory party completely out of control; with obligatory and obvious requisites like mountains of broken beer bottles, having sex on a dirty floor, garage singles with whiskey stains on them, runny mascara on broken-hearted girls, screaming neighbors, old ladies frenetically trying to destroy their hearing aids with their walkers, and where a crookedly smiling, smoke-puffing Johnny Thunders is a generous doorman.

The EP “Death Surf Negro Spirituals (Kong Tiki Records, 2007) was released later the same year, followed by the debut longplayer “ Black Vodoun Space Blues” (Kong Tiki Records, 2008). Pirate Love released their first record in 2007, a 7 inch vinyl featuring the song “Laughing Gas”, which received heavy rotation on rock radio and whose video got an instant MTV Europe “A” listing. Received the Alarm Award’s nomination for “Best Video of the Year 2007”. The EP “Death Surf Negro Spirituals (Kong Tiki Records, 2007) was released later the same year, followed by the debut longplayer “Black Vodoun Space Blues” (Kong Tiki Records, 2008). Having toured throughout 2008 and 2009, the band has played festivals in both North America and Europe. Now with shows scheduled at SXSW 2010 in Austin, followed by a US tour, the band will play their last shows, before returning to Norway and preparing to record their second album in August 2010, with Gordan Raphael (The Strokes 'Room On Fire') as producer. The band will also release a new single with Best Of Both Records, which will be available on a 7" split (with Little Girls, from Toronto, Canada), in select record stores across North America, in early March 2010.
