French/Afrobeat ambassadeurs Bibi Tanga & The Selenites announce NYC debut shows @ Lincoln Center & Joe's Pub.

Afro-funk bandleader Bibi Tanga and groove-heavy accompaniment The Selenites are excited to be performing at The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and at Joe's Pub, both in New York City, following up on their U.S. debut album release on June 1, 2010, with Dunya (Nat Geo Music).

Bibi Tanga and The Selenites -- composed of Tanga, Arthur Simonini on violin and keyboards, Rico Kerridge on guitar and Arnaud Biscay on drums -- will be coming to New York City after a show in Paris and will be performing on August 19th, 2010, at 8:30pm during Target Free Thursdays in the David Rubenstein Atrium at The Lincoln Centre. Following Bibi Tanga's Lincoln Centre performance, the band will be showcasing at New York hotspot Joe's Pub as part of Somi's New Africa Live series. This show will be held on August 20th, 2010, and is a chance to hear this unique afro-funk, jazz and rock sound of Bibi Tanga. This is a bass-heavy, yet smooth sound that anyone can groove to.

The Consonance bring their blend of jazz-flecked hip hop to the west of Canada.

Through the years, hip-hop has had more than a few dalliances with surprising musical mistresses. Flirtations with Coltrane and dusty Jazz 45s were the norm in Shaolin, while P Funk party starting reigned supreme on the American West Coast in the 90s. Zeppelin-assisted grandiloquence and Benjamins-obsessed rockers rang in the new millennium, while Will Smith made the Top 40 dial a safe place for squeaky clean boom bap as Y2K loomed. Somehow, in 2010, six jazz students from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton have managed to assemble all these references, nods and inspirations under one banner: The Consonance.

Formed in 2009, the group offered up the short-order More Alive EP, which melded clarinets with consciousness and keys with concrete. But on the six-piece’s full-length follow up, Come The Day, The Consonance further hone their vibrant brand of soulful jazz-flecked hip hop to make a sound all their own. Later this month, the group takes that sound on the road, gigging through cities all across Western Canada in support of the LP.
