AMDA is one of the best performing arts colleges in the country and I spent 3 of the most amazing years there. I was looking at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy reviews last week as i wanted to leave my own review about my time at this special college. I feel that there isn’t enough depth or context to the reviews which have been written on there and so I wanted to give me own view on what life is like at the college, studying performing arts and most importantly, what you can do in order to get the most out of studying a topic like this.
Life at AMDA
There is a very different feel at AMDA to most colleges, there isn’t that party scene which some colleges have, nor is there a great many groups which you can get involved with. The word that I would use to describe the students and campus life here is dedicated. These men and women are skilled and creative and they are here to become the very best that they can be. This is why students do have a huge amount of fun, but it is combined with the hard work of becoming the best actors, singers and performers which they can possibly become. Everyone knows that a career in the arts is a dream which many cannot realize, the students at AMDA appreciate their shot and they are making the most of it.
Studying Performing Arts
I honestly cannot stress how hard you must work when you are studying performing arts, not just in the classes but beyond that this is a chance for you to grow as artist and that takes work. From planning performances to practicing, not to mention the work that goes into the theoretical side of this course, you can expect to work for many hours a day, seven days per week. Studying performing arts is also this incredible explosion of ideas and creativity, you will be around people who have amazing thoughts and concepts, you should open up your mind and use this as a chance to step out of your comfort zone and be ready for new ways of doing things. This is a great course to study and one which will make you a better artist, actor, singer or designer.
Making the Most of It
As I mentioned, this is an opportunity which so many people would love to have, and you have it. This is why you have to make the most out of this course, you should be competitive to beat your fellow students and be a better performing artist, you should drink in every bit of information from your professors and you should also ensure that you are prepared to work incredibly hard on this course, in order to spend a career doing what you love.
This is the key here, if you want a career doing something which you love in the arts, this is where the hard work begins.
